Making sure your headwear fits correctly is important, you don’t want a hat to loose that it blows off on a windy day or keeps slipping down over your eyes, at the same time you don’t want your hat to tight so it doesn’t sit correctly or leaves a red mark on your forehead. So, we suggest measuring and not just guessing.
You can measure your head quite easily at home starting with a measuring tape, if you do not have one then a couple of things from around the house –
- Length of string, ribbon, or thread – long enough to go round the whole of your head
- A pen
- Hat measurement guide
Step 1 – Place the string or tape around your head about 1/8″ above your ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly. You do not want the tape measure to tight as that will then mean your hat will be too.
Step 2 – If you have used a piece of string or ribbon measure the length against a ruler.
Step 3 – Check the measurement against the guide to see which size suits you, if you fall in between sizes then its advisable to go up in size rather than down.
Sizing from different brands, manufacturers and countries will always be different, so this guide does not ensure a perfect fit, so it is always advisable to check your measurements with the milliner s own guides and sizing’s. Generally Small is usually 55cm, medium is usually 57cm, Large is usually 59cm, X-Large is usually 61cm and 2X-Large is usually 63cm.
As always if you have questions regarding sizing or just anything in general about a specific piece, ask your Milliner, they are always happy to answer your questions.
